What a burn.
Nope. Sorry, it's not that good. there are 10 tracks on this album, seven that actually have lyrics, one that is pretty much just an album filler of a single piano and Trent Reznor whispering some meaningless jibber jab along to. Maybe two really good NIN tracks on the whole record, and that's being generous. On top of that, this silly album is verry expensive....and the "bonus" video is just a repetitive practice moment between Reznor and his tour band. This album is a rip off....by far the worst NIN album yet made. Even With Teeth was better than this.

Not spectacular, but still a more than solid release
Since his divorce from Interscope in 2007, Trent Reznor has wasted little time in making new material available to the public, with the latest Nine Inch Nails offering being "The Slip". Coming only two months after Reznor's release of the instrumental "Ghosts I-IV", "The Slip" is a riveting album that borderlines perfection, but never quite gets there and seems to almost meander as it winds down to it's conclusion. Standout tracks, including "1,000,000", "Discipline", "Echoplex", and "Demon Seed" are pure Nine Inch Nails all the way, while "Corona Radiata" just comes off as a little too predictable for my tastes. The album as a whole seems to go by a little speedier to expected as well, and doesn't quite leave the lasting impression that one would hope compared to nearly everything else Nine Inch Nails has released over the past few years. However, all flaws aside, "The Slip" is still a more than solid release that delivers the goods that NIN fans expect, and while it isn't spectacular, "The Slip" is a success purely thanks to the fact that Trent can now do what he wants (and when he wants) without being handcuffed by a label. And that alone is reason enough to celebrate.

Reznor pulls off another hit.
Trent Reznor has always been one to go against the flow, starting with his provocative lyrics in "Closer" to his insane and over the top tour shows, and now with a new release style.

With the massive success of Ghosts, a 4-part ambient experiment with lots of enjoyable beats and relaxing music, he offered a download of this album, "The Slip", complete with multiple formats and the added art, lyrics, and other goodies in the ID3 tags and in a PDF.

The Limited Edition is quite a treat with a couple of stickers, a bi-fold digipack with audio and video, both on opposite sides in simple, artistic fashion along with the tracklist and Halo 27/NIN designation in the center.

This is truly a classic Nine Inch Nails release, blending seamlessly between tracks varying between the fast, aggressive rock, slower, but still powerful tracks, and even ambient and glitchy tracks mixed in the middle. From the old-school "Discipline", to soft, slow "Lights in the Sky", to the insanity of "Letting Go", Reznor keeps the perfect NIN style while moving up in skill and quality.

Even if you don't get it from Amazon, go grab it from the official Nine Inch Nails site, or even via BitTorrent under the Creative Commons License. Trent himself has been quoted, "We encourage you to remix it, share it with your friends, post it on your blog, play it on your podcast, give it to strangers, etc."

So, go check this out, and enjoy the mastermind of this great musician and artist.
