Michael Bublé
download

Producer David Foster (Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston) has a new discovery in the wake of a very successful young find Josh Groban. Michael Buble (pronounced boo-blay) is a 25-year-old singing sensation whose smooth voice & heartthrob style harks back to the swingin' greats of earlier decades, to the likes of Frank & Dean, but also speaks to a new generation's sensibility. 2003 self-titled debut from Reprise/143.

Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley

Totally Romantic
I know I'm a bit behind buying this album now when its been out for a few years, but I own the two newest albums and LOVE them. I have to say that this album did not disappoint me one bit. I think I like it even more than his most recent albums. The songs are so romantic and sexy. If you are a Michael Buble fan and don't have this one yet, do yourself a big favor and buy it!

Fantastic !
Michael Buble is one of the most talented artist of our time. A reincarnated Frank Sinatra - even better. Every track on this CD is wonderful.

Thank You David Foster
for discovering such an amazing talent. Next time he's got to sing something by Michael Bolton or Kenny Loggins (and more original stuff)

Mamma Mia! The Musical Based on the Songs of ABBA: A Decca Broadway Original Cast Recording (1999 London Cast)
download

Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

great soundtrack
If you love abba, you've got to own this soundtrack. It is a london production though, so the accent in the spoken parts bothers me a bit. Still, a great CD.

Fabulous!
Hands down-this CD doesn't disappoint. You know what you are getting, if you have seen the musical-but if you haven't-it's still a great purchase. Great music, great cast, just good music. I have seen the musical on broadway and am addicted to it.

Great CD
This is really a great CD. I really wasn't an ABBA fan when they were popular, but now I love this music. I've seen the play and the movie. A good CD to "move your butt" to!

To Disco
This CD was free on the Web Site but I did purchase anyway. I think it is a little disco sounding compared to his old work. His age is showing.

A good release
This album is quite pleasing: good rhythm, nice feelings while listening to that "good old NIN style" (common, we all like when Trent's shouting, we like that indus sound, which means good old saturated guitar, good percussions &cool atmosphere on the electro part to me) and also a good following to the Ghosts previous album.

Of course, I'm one of those people that think that the more "venomous" aspects of NIN's years were what gave the best sound & feelings, anyway I still find it to be good music in general, although I would personally "put down" a bit the electronic / "noise" parts for more "metalesque" parts.

Anyway, to sum up the whole picture, I would say that this album is quite refreshing & for those of you that are undecided to buy or not this one, just download it for free & legally from the official web site, then honor the authors for their work.

NIN - The Slip
After parting ways with their record label, Interscope Records, Nine Inch Nails have redefined and reestablished themselves as a vital force in the industrial music movement. "The Slip" is reminiscent of "Broken," their second LP, as far as feeling and emotion toward the record industry and the worlds around us are concerned. It's a vital, vengeful, heavy, loud, and brutally savage depiction of the music industry as a whole, and the way music, as an art form, is promoted, distributed, and depicted these days. Originally offered as a free download on their official site as a "thank you" to their fans' unrelenting loyalty, the album is offered in multiple downloadable formats including lyrics, original artwork, desktop wallpapers, icons and more, "The Slip" quickly became leaked to the world. Still offered as a free download, a limited edition CD of only 250,000 copies soon followed, along with a vinyl format released worldwide. "The Slip" was followed by a world tour that is quite simply one of the most intense performances of their career; visually, emotionally, and musically. With the return of long-time guitarist Robin Finck, the live interpretation of songs both new and old is represented with solid conviction. Dazzling lighting effects, a set list containing songs that span decades, overwhelming visuals, and a tenacity impossible to duplicate make this one of the best live shows of 2008. Do not pass up the opportunity to add "The Slip" to your growing Nine Inch Nails collection, or if you're new to the world of Nine Inch Nails, this album is a must have and is just as vital and important as such classics as "Pretty Hate Machine," "Broken," "The Downward Spiral," and "The Fragile."

BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!
If you read any review that pans this album... they are wrong !!!! It has all the elements that a great album should have. Highs and lows... Hard and soft. The song writing is the best of thier career. You can't stay grwol & scowl forever ...so this is the best point to move forward from there. Thank god they dumped Rick Rubin. He is so washed up it aint funny. I don't think he has produced anything good since... I don't know when! Just buy and you will not be dissapointed. Way better than thier previous work. By far!!!!

All Hope is Not Gone
Ok people. The first album I heard by Slipknot was their third album. I love that album, I hold it in high regard as their best album they've made so far. I worked my way back and loved those albums as well. I can strongly say that I am a Slipknot fan. This said, I was a little bit uneasy about this album when I heard their two songs "Psychosocial" and "All Hope is Gone" on their website. It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. It sounded to random and unfinished. I ordered the album, played it, and I have to admit that this album is NOT bad. Every song has at least one great part to it, whether it's the chorus or the end or the beginning. I enjoyed thier slower songs like "Snuff" and "Dead Memories", but I liked thier faster more 'hardcore' songs like "This Cold Black" and "Wherein Lies Continue" also. If you enjoyed the Slipknot albums before this one, you will like it. It's not thier best, but it's worth having in your collection. I strongly recommend getting this album if you are a Slipknot fan or at the very least a fan of their 3rd album.

Best metal vocals ever!!
Just like its predecessor, All Hope is Gone will take some time until I fully appreciate it and then I may upgrade it to a 5 star album. Some of the songs are not that good such as Dead Memories but the good ones are extremely well done and catchy. I'm addicted to Psychosocial and Butcher's Hook right now and I think Corey's vocals are the best ever in this album - probably the best vocals ever done on a metal album.

This man is a living legend
Just a super CD a long waited blues album by a master. Having guest appearances by Robert Randolph amongst others is just sweat cream with a cherry on top.

Still rockin'
What could be better - Buddy Guy, Clapton, Robert Randolf, Susan Tedesci and Derek Truck?

Great Moments Only
Buddy Guy remains one of the few artists that I actually track CD release dates. Silvertone has done wonders for his well deserved career creating some of the best music regardless of preference for blues or guitar rock.

The first half of this CD is terrific, especially the first two tracks- a classic, paint peeling Buddy jam followed by a great ensemble with Trucks and Tedeschi. My interest faded over the second half of the disc and I started to wonder where my copies of Sweet Tea, Slippin' In and Feels Like Rain had gone. Good but not great.

Live from Nowhere in Particular, Joe Bonamassa
download

Two CD set. Live from Nowhere in Particular is the 2008 album from Joe Bonamassa, an US blues guitarist/singer. Guitar One Magazine has stated that 'he just might be the best guitarist of his generation.' His blues-rock style is similar to that of Stevie Ray Vaughan's. In an interview in 'Guitarist' magazine (issue 265), Joe Bonamassa cited the three albums that had the biggest influence on his playing: John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (the 'Beano Album'), Rory Gallagher's 'Irish Tour' and 'Goodbye' by Cream.

Track Listing
Disc 1: 1. Bridge to Better Days. 2. Walk In My Shadows. 3. So Many Roads. 4. India / Mountain Time. 5. Another Kind of Love. 6. Sloe Gin. 7. One of These Days

Tastefully Edited "Live Album"...Recent tour "highlights" from a true "Guitar Master"
A very tastefully edited "live" album with songs from different performances of a recent tour....Yes, some of the crowd noise is edited out, maybe taking away some of the "live" feel to this album...that being said, it also brings the music to the forefront...To me..that's what it's all about isn't it??..The music?? Is it pleasurable to hear a screaming fan drowning out the quiet nuances of the songs? I think not.. A perfect echo...the holding on to one wonderful note & letting it fade graciously into silence before the next barrage of powerful notes take it's place...These things deserve to be heard....Kudos to Kevin Shirley for his emphasis on "the music" in producing this wonderful album...Also to Joe, Bogie, Carmine & Rick for their spectacular performances..All of them to be heard stunningly clear because of the masterful production...Top live album of the year in my estimation and it easily makes my top ten list of best live albums of all time....A snapshot in time of an extraordinary artist who is leading the way...stretching the musical boundaries of the blues and blues rock....I for one am enjoying the ride.:)..Thanks for listening....Ragamuffin

so good I wanted to stand up and applaud
the live feel of this record is so good, I just about stood up and clapped after "One of These Days". If you're already a Joe fan, just get it. If you're a new Joe listener, listen to the samples, than just get it.

Outstanding "LIVE" disc!
One of the best live albums of the year, hands down.
The cat can play un-frickin-believable.
One the best blues guitarist out there today.
Scratch that.
One of the best guitar slingers in the world.
His vocals are outstanding also.
I haven't seen him live, but after listening to this countless times, I will most definitely!
Go get this disc!

An Incomplete soundtrack
In this era of full cast recordings and double Cds (ie Hairspray,Dreamgirls)_that features ALL music from a movie, why are so many tracks from the movie missing? Especially the big showy cast numbers at the end of the film?????? I mean the movie and the music are hardly music theatre masterpieces, but if you want to buy a soundtrack CD these days, one expects the whole movie on the soundtrack, with one disc CDs running to 73 minutes this 60 odd minute job is very disappointing from this perspective.

Magical and marvelous -- at any age
Though I was never really an ABBA fan, I certainly knew who they were and I knew a few of their songs ("Dancing Queen", "Mamma Mia!", etc.) I knew when MAMMA MIA! hit the stage that it was based on the songs of ABBA but never saw it.

When I saw the movie trailer, though, I thought: This is going to be good. And I promised myself I wouldn't miss it.

I have now seen the film three times (in 10 days); my husband has seen it twice; and my two sons (ages 13 and 10) just saw it with us. And we ALL loved it. (My 10-year-old asked me anxiously, WHILE he was watching it, if we could PLEASE buy the DVD ... the day it comes out!)

It's the first time I've felt joyous in a movie since GREASE in 1978. I'd forgotten that movies were supposed to feel this good -- but MAMMA MIA! reminded me in a rush.

Meanwhile, though, I bought CD to tide me over. And it's WONDERFUL.

I usually have a preference for soundtracks of musicals over Broadway cast recordings, for one reason: The voices aren't always as good, but the orchestrations are usually much richer and fuller (ex: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which had a 50-piece orchestra for the show, had a 100-piece orchestra on the soundtrack -- yeah, it DOES make a difference!)

Here the orchestrations stuck close to the ABBA originals, but with, of course, far more voices on the choral numbers. And what amazes me, after playing the CD for over a week (yeah, night and day, just like other reviewers), is that I'm discovering new songs I really love, that I hadn't been as crazy about to start with.

I started out loving "Honey, Honey" (which I'd never heard before -- fantastic!), "Mamma Mia!" and "Dancing Queen" -- now I'm also in love with "Our Last Summer", "Super Trouper" and "Voulez-Vous", with "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" coming in for its own share of my attention.

My sons have added the songs to their mp3 players. My husband insisted I burn him a copy of the CD for his car. I've uploaded the score to my computer and the original CD is in MY car. And though I have a CD changer that holds 6 discs, this is the only one I'm playing ... and I suspect it will be for some time to come.

Meryl Streep has a fine voice, though not a strong one (not surprisingly, as she's not a professional singer). But she does full justice to her songs and dances in the film ... a bravura performance. I love Amanda Seyfried's voice -- she really has a singing future, if she wants one. And Julie Walters and Christine Beransky are terrific. I give Pierce Brosnan major points for doing something he's just not equipped to do, and giving it his best shot. Nice try, Pierce. And the other men, IMO, did just fine.

My only word of caution: If you tend to have an addictive personality, you might want to stay away from this CD. I won't be responsible for the many hours you'll lose singing and dancing along to this wonderful score ... after all, I warned you!

A Must Have for Musical Lovers!
I saw this movie on Thursday, and bought the soundtrack on the way home from the theater! I have listened to it non-stop for 3 days and still can't get enough of it. Abba fans will truly love it, but anyone who likes musicals, for their catchy tunes and lyrics, will love this CD. There are some slower numbers, but most jump right along. If you liked the movie, you should have this soundtrack! Crank this up while driving or doing housework - the time spent will FLY by!
